 There are 3 main types of damp that you may experience in your home:

• Rising Damp
• Penetrating Damp
• Condensation

Rising Damp:

This is when damp is brought up from the ground through capillary action. It can occur due to of a number of reasons:

• The original damp-proof course (DPC) that was installed when the property was build has deteriorated and failed.
• The property was never constructed with a DPC.
• The DPC has been bridged in some way - raised floor levels (internal or external), new plaster or render has been applied too low down on the walls.

When rising damp travels up into the walls it brings with it ground salts. These are hygroscopic so attract and absorb moisture from the air.

For this reason it is necessary to remove the existing plaster and place it with plaster containing integral waterproofers and salt inhibitors.

A new chemical injection DPC is also installed to prevent future rising damp.
